Finding My MailChimp API Key and List ID

MailChimp is a tool used to capture email addresses. To use MailChimp as your chosen newsletter signup tool, you'll need a few details to enable it in CT.

In this article, we'll show you where to find your Newsletter API Token and your Newsletter List ID which is needed for a MailChimp integration.

Please note: Your end users must respond to an opt-in confirmation email from MailChimp before they are added to your mailing lists.

First login to your MailChimp account and click on your User avatar on the top right hand corner. In the drop down, select Account.

Across the top there is a menu option, click on Extras and in the drop down, select API keys. At the bottom, you'll find your API Key (Newsletter API Token).

Copy this and keep it somewhere safe for now.

Now you'll need your Newsletter List ID. On the top left hand corner, click on the 3 stripes that indicate a menu.

Now select Lists.

Select the list you want your emails to be stored when they've been captured. Click on the downward arrow button on the right of the list and in the drop down select Settings.

You'll now see a list of Settings. Click on List name and defaults. 

On the right hand side, in red, you'll find your List ID. Copy this and keep it safe too.

Once you have the Newsletter List ID and your Newsletter API Token, go into your CT account and select your Wi-Fi location. Then click on Splash Pages on the left hand menu. Select which splash you want to edit and go into its settings. Make sure you set Newsletter Capture Type to MailChimp.

Now scroll down and go to Email Capture Settings. Under Newsletter Type, select MailChimp.

Enter your Newsletter API token and your Newsletter List ID and click Save.

You have now set up your email capture with MailChimp. Congratulations!
